INCIDENT/ INFORMATION:
On Saturday November, 19th 2011 the Frederick Police Department’s Training Division held the Practical Scenario/Graduation Day Presentation of its 19th Citizens Police Academy. During this day, citizen police academy attendees took part in simulated scenario based training, firearm safety/instruction, and practical firearm exercises. At the conclusion of the day’s events, citizen police academy attendees received certificates of completion.
The Frederick Police Department’s 19th Citizens Police Academy was a (9) week free of charge program, meeting every Wednesday evening from 6PM-8PM starting on September 21st and ending on November 16th, designed to educate and inform citizens on the many facets of the law enforcement field which includes laws of arrest, search and seizure, DUI/DWI enforcement, use of force, and much more. Upon completion of the program, citizen police academy attendees will not be sworn police officers, nor be expected to perform any law enforcement functions. However, citizen police academy attendees will have a greater understanding of the structure, goals, and mission of the Frederick Police Department. Plus, citizen police academy attendees will also have a greater understanding of the community the Frederick Police Department serves.
