On July 23, 2022, at approximately 3:30 AM, officers of the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to the 300 blk of N Market Street, in Frederick City, for a disturbance. When officers arrived they observed the victim, Michael Isaiah Olaniyi, lying on the roadway with an apparent gunshot wound. Officers immediately requested Emergency Medical Services respond to the scene, and provided medical attention to the victim before their arrival. The medical care provided by the officers on the scene included placing a chest seal on the wound and active CPR. Olaniyi was taken to the hospital and was pronounced dead soon after.
This investigation was assigned to the Frederick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division – Major Crimes Unit. Through evidence and information obtained, detectives know there were multiple people in the direct vicinity of where the shooting occurred who may have been witnesses to the event.
