FPD designating areas "Selective Traffic Enforcement Zones"

The Frederick Police Department continues to work towards safer streets in and around the City of Frederick. Officers designated as traffic specialists use data and citizen complaint information to designate locations within the city as “selective traffic enforcement zones." Those designated zones will now have signs posted in the area to educate drivers that the area is a designated selective traffic enforcement zone. Officers will conduct frequent traffic enforcement within these designated zones. The zones will be evaluated monthly and the goal of the project is to use the monthly data and complaint information to determine if the designated areas need to be moved throughout the city.

Based on current data and citizen complaints the following areas are the current “Designated Traffic Enforcement Zones:"

  • Lee Place from Rosemont Ave. to West Seventh Street
  • Christopher's Crossing from Opossumtown Pike to Thomas Johnson Drive
  • Bel Aire Lane from Key Parkway to Schaffer Drive

Cpl. Dave Golden oversees the decentralized traffic team, he continues to work with the City of Frederick Engineering Department to receive, evaluate, and address citizen complaints or safety concerns that come through the “Traffic Complaints/Safety Concerns” section on the City of Frederick’s website. As of April 12, 2022, Cpl. Golden has received, evaluated, and addressed approximately 500 total complaints. Complaints received through the portal are initially reviewed by the police department. Cpl Golden reviews the issue to determine which city department can best address it.  Most of the complaints have been addressed with a collaborate approach between the Police Department and Engineering Department. Citizens can access the complaint/safety issue portal by utilizing the following website:  Form Center • Frederick, MD • CivicEngage (cityoffrederickmd.gov)
