The Frederick Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division has arrested a man who planned for and attempted to kill another person.
On the morning of Nov. 18, 2021, officers of the Frederick Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Patrick Street, in Frederick City, for a reported robbery.
During the investigation, detectives learned the adult victim was at their vehicle in the above area when the suspect approached the vehicle and pointed a handgun at the victim. The victim and witnesses in the area described the suspect as manipulating the slide of the gun before pulling the trigger as the gun was pointed at the victim. The gun malfunctioned and did not discharge, and the suspect fled the area on foot and discarded the gun nearby. Officers quickly obtained a description of the suspect and the direction of travel, and the suspect was apprehended nearby and the gun was recovered.
The suspect was identified as, David Clayton Hanson. Hanson was later transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center (FCADC) where he was held without bond.
The weapon used during this crime was located near the incident. Through additional evidence and information obtained, it was determined the assault on the known victim was premeditated.
