On Friday May 21, 2021 at approximately 11:30 a.m. a female victim made contact with a Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Deputy in the courthouse. It was quickly determined the victim had been physically assaulted and that it had occurred in the City of Frederick at a local Hotel. Detectives made contact with the victim and escorted her to a local medical facility for treatment of her injuries, and interview. During the interview the victim said the suspect, George O’Conner, had physically assaulted and choked the victim. During the incident Mr. O’Conner also displayed a gun.
Detectives applied for and were granted an arrest warrant for Mr. O’Conner. FPD applied for and received a Search and Seizure Warrant for Mr. O’Conner’s residence on Challedon Drive in Walkersville. On the evening of May 21st members of the Frederick Police Department’s Special Response Team, assisted by the Frederick County SWAT Team and the Washington County SWAT team served the Search Warrant. Based on the level of violence and weapons displayed by Mr. O’Conner, the FCSO ad Washington County SWAT Teams utilized their Armored Rescue Vehicles. Mr. O’Conner initially barricaded himself inside the residence but eventually surrendered to Law Enforcement after a short standoff. The surrender was facilitated by the Frederick Police Department’s Crisis Negotiation Team. Mr. O’Conner is currently at FHH receiving a mental evaluation before he will be taken to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center.
The Frederick Police Department would like to thank the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County SWAT team for the use of their Armored Rescue Vehicles and their personnel. It is with their partnership and support that this incident ended peacefully without anyone injured, and the community and neighborhood remain safe.
