Frederick Police Department’s training academy was found to be in full compliance with the state standards set by the Maryland Police Corrections and Training Commissions.
The commissions conducted an audit of FPD’s records associated with the MPCTC Entry Level Training certification requirements. The audit was conducted in accordance with the requirements set in Title 12 Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services, Code of Maryland Regulations, Subtitle 04 Police Training and Standards Commission 12.04.01.10.
The audit examined academies between the end of 2017 and beginning of 2020. During that time, in addition to students from Frederick Police Department, the Frederick City Police Academy trained students from the following agencies:
- Hagerstown Police Department
- Washington County Sheriff’s Office
- Frederick County Sheriff’s Office
- Cumberland City Police Department
- Westminster Police Department
- Garrett County Sheriff’s Office
- Takoma Park Police Department
- Brunswick Police Department
- Rockville Police Department
- Gaithersburg Police Department
“The Maryland Police and Correctional Training Commission’s audit shows that Frederick Police Department’s training academy consistently sets a standard in training not just our own men and women in uniform, but those of several other outstanding jurisdictions that have attended our academy,” said Lt. Kevin Meyer, who oversees the support services division. “As we are currently running our 63rd Entry-Level Training Academy, we are excited but not surprised by the findings of the audit and will continue to meet the top-of-the-line standards set by the Commission.”
