On December 9, 2020, members of the Frederick Police Department executed a search and seizure warrant in the 1400 block of Grouse Court, Frederick Maryland in reference to an ongoing drug/firearms investigation. During the clearance, the Frederick Police Department’s Special Response Team located Chung Thang in the basement of the residence.
Members of the Frederick Police Department’s Drug Enforcement Unit, the Frederick County Sheriff’s Office Narcotics Task Force and Maryland State Police’s Western Region Narcotics Section then searched the residence. The search of the basement revealed 6.3 grams of heroin/fentanyl located in 6 plastic vials, 564 grams of marijuana, a stolen handgun, drug paraphernalia and $1440 in U.S. currency. When the stolen handgun was located, it was loaded and easily accessible to children also residing in the dwelling.
This investigation was initiated by Detective Patrick Spevak after Thang was associated with several opioid overdoses both inside and outside of Frederick County. Detective Spevak conducted numerous hours of surveillance leading up to the search warrant where he observed Thang make multiple suspected drug transactions. Thang was placed under arrest and transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
