The night before Thanksgiving typically draws hundreds of visitors to the downtown area, primarily to patronize downtown establishments. The Frederick Police Department increases staffing for this night in preparation for alcohol-related issues such as assaults, disorderly conduct, and noise complaints. Contact tracing by the Maryland Department of Health has identified indoor dining and large gatherings as driving forces in the continued and increased spread of COVID-19. Consequently, Governor Hogan issued revised Executive Orders, which go into effect 11/20/2020. One provision of these orders requires restaurants and bars to be closed by 10 PM, only allowing delivery or curbside pickup after that time.
Affected businesses and those patronizing local establishments are advised that the Frederick Police Department, the Frederick County Liquor Board, The Office of the State Fire Marshal, and the Frederick County Health Department will be conducting compliance checks on Wednesday, November 25, 2020. The penalties for violations of Governor Hogan’s Executive Orders include one-year imprisonment and/or a $5,000 fine. Penalties for violation of the County Executive’s Order vary.
