Frederick Police Investigate Uptick in Vehicle Thefts
Recently, Frederick has experienced an increase in motor vehicle theft, as well as recovery of vehicles stolen from Frederick and other jurisdictions. In the past week, the Frederick Police Department (FPD) has investigated eight vehicle thefts and recovered six stolen vehicles. Personnel in our Crime Analysis Team, Street Crimes Unit, and Patrol Division are actively investigating and sharing information with law enforcement agencies in the region.
A common factor in many of these thefts is the victims left spare keys in the vehicles. Please help FPD end this crime trend. Be the first line of prevention by removing spare keys and valuables from your cars, and ensure cars are locked when unattended. Please take note of and report suspicious activity, and share home surveillance video of suspicious activity with us. For non-emergency matters, call us 24/7 at 301-600-2102. For crimes in progress or other emergencies, call 9-1-1.
We encourage anyone with information to contact Detective Kyle Jones at 240-674-7058. Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact the department’s tip lines: by voicemail at 301-600-TIPS (8477), to text message at 240-674-TIPS (8477), or by email at fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
The City of Frederick is a participating jurisdiction with Metro Crime Stoppers (MCS) of Maryland. Submitting a tip through MCS is anonymous, and if the information leads to an arrest or criminal charges, the tipster receives a cash reward. See http://metrocrimestoppers.org/submit-a-tip/ for more information.
