Mayor Michael O’Connor announced today that all City of Frederick employees will be granted an administrative holiday for Election Day 2020 to ensure all have an opportunity to exercise their right to vote.
“Voting is a fundamental right, and allowing our staff to vote on Election Day and/or work on Election Day ensures City employees can participate meaningfully in our democracy,” shared Mayor O’Connor. The COVID 19 pandemic has created many challenges and required adaptation, and I want every employee to vote the way they feel comfortable during the COVID-19 pandemic. I want every employee to have the opportunity to fulfill their civic duty and constitutional right to vote.”
While this year employees will be granted administrative leave for the day, Mayor O’Connor plans to engage the City’s Employee Committee to discuss plans for future Election Days. Information will be shared closer to November 3, 2020 regarding adjustments to City services and schedules.
