Felony Assault Suspect Charged and Identified

Detective McKinney applied for charges of 1st and 2nd degree assault against Edy Daniel Marroquin-Soma, 21, of Frederick.  A District Court Commissioner issued an arrest warrant, which has been served.  Marroquin-Soma is incarcerated at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center without bond after an initial appearance before the District Court Commissioner.

The victim and the suspect live in the same block, and detectives continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the assault.  At the time of this update, the condition of the victim is critical, but stable.

Frederick Police Investigate Felony Assault

FREDERICK, MD – At 5:14 a.m. on August 26, 2020, officers of the Frederick Police Department (FPD) responded to the 500 block of Logan Street for an assault in progress.  Officers located an unconscious, 78-year-old male victim with serious injuries.  FPD officers and Emergency Medical Technicians from the Frederick County Division of Fire and Rescue Services provided treatment at the scene.  The Maryland State Police Aviation Division transported the victim to a trauma center for further treatment.  The victim is in critical condition at this time.

Officers located a 21-year-old male suspect at the scene and took him into custody.  Members of the FPD Criminal Investigations Section and Crime Scene Unit assumed the investigation. FPD will provide an update once the suspect is charged.
