Frederick Police Seek Suspect in Assault with Firearm
At 4:58 p.m. on June 10, 2020, the Frederick Police Department (FPD) received reports of a gunshot in the area of 1000 Heather Ridge Drive. Officers arrived on scene and spoke with several witnesses and bystanders. Witnesses reported seeing a male identified as Terence Tyrelle Kerns, Jr., 30, of Frederick, fire a single gunshot, and flee the area toward the 800 block of Heather Ridge Drive. Officers also identified an adult, male victim. The gunshot did not strike the victim. No one was injured. An officer located a single cartridge casing in the area where the altercation occurred.
Officers received information that after Kerns had fled, he entered an apartment in the 800 block of Heather Ridge Drive. Police closed the 700-1000 block of Heather Ridge Drive while the investigation way underway. Based on information received from several persons at the scene, officers searched a specific apartment, but Kerns was not inside. Officers did not locate Kerns in the area, and re-opened Heather Ridge Drive at approximately 8:25 p.m.
As of June 11, 2020, Terence Kerns has an active arrest warrant for the following charges related to this incident:
- Assault – 1st Degree, CR-3-202;
- Reckless Endangerment, CR 3-204(a)(1);
- Firearm Use/ Felony Violent Crime, CR 4-204(b);
- Regulated Firearm: Illegal Possession, PS 5-133(b);
- Firearm Possession - Criminal Violent Felony Conviction, PS 5-133(c);
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition, PS 5-133.1;
- Handgun on Person, CR 4-203;
- Loaded Handgun on Person, CR 4-203(a)(1)(v);
- Firearm Possession with Felony Conviction, PS 5-133(c).
Kerns also has an active arrest warrant for violation of probation, issued May 29, 2020.
