Frederick Police Arrest Man for Assault and Multiple Firearm Offenses
FREDERICK, MD – At 7:54 a.m. on March 20, 2020, officers of the Frederick Police Department responded to a domestic assault in progress in the 1100 block of Orchard Terrace. The first arriving officer located an adult female near the parking area who confirmed that she had been fighting with her boyfriend. At that time, no other persons were visible in the area.
As the officer was speaking with the woman, the suspect, identified later as Derrick Dante Wallace, 32, of Frederick, fired a gunshot from the opposite side of a car parked nearby. Officers determined that Wallace had been sitting on a curb behind the vehicle when he fired a single shot. The bullet struck another unoccupied car parked in the lot, and no one was injured. Officers quickly took Wallace into custody and located a firearm where he had been sitting on the curb.
As a result of the investigation, conducted by a team of several officers, detectives, and crime scene technicians, Wallace was charged at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center with the following criminal offenses:
- Loaded Handgun on Person
- Handgun on Person
- Firearm Possession with Felony Conviction
- Regulated Firearm: Illegal Possession
- Illegal Possession of Ammunition
- Disorderly Conduct
- Reckless Endangerment
- Assault-Second Degree
- Resist/Interfere with Arrest
- Discharge Firearm in City Limit
- Fail to Obey a Reasonable/Lawful Order
Wallace is currently held without bond.
