City to Apply Algae Treatment at Two Water Sources

Frederick, MD -- In an effort to treat taste and odor causing algae at two water sources, The City of Frederick Department of Public Works will be applying 180 lbs. of copper sulfate to Lake Linganore and 4 lbs. to the Fishing Creek Reservoir.
The work will take place on Friday, June 8 2012 from 8:00 AM to12:00 noon at Lake Linganore and from 1:00 PM – 2:30 PM at the Fishing Creek Reservoir.
The copper sulfate crystals will be diluted with water and the concentration of dissolved copper will be sprayed along the shorelines. In the event of rain, the process will be rescheduled for Monday, June 11, 2012.
Both the Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) and the Lake Linganore Association have been contacted and made aware that this work will be taking place.

IMPACT TO AREA:
The City of Frederick Department of Public Works will have a boat on the water sources and will be applying the copper sulfate solution with a spray bar/wand. There should not be any impact to the public or livestock in the small dosage that is being applied.
