FREDERICK POLICE DEPARTMENT - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
March 2, 2020
The Frederick Police Department Joins Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland
The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce that the City of Frederick is now a participating jurisdiction with Metro Crime Stoppers of Maryland (MCS). With this addition, MCS of Maryland currently encompasses Frederick City, Baltimore City, Annapolis City, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford, Howard, and Queen Anne’s Counties. MCS is a volunteer organization actively supporting law enforcement agencies in solving crime. Established in Maryland in 1981, it is a part of an international network of crime fighting organizations.
MCS encourages individuals to provide information that will result in the resolution of unsolved felony crimes. Persons with tips can furnish information confidentially in three ways:
- online at http://metrocrimestoppers.org/submit-a-tip/ [metrocrimestoppers.org];
- by following Metro Crime Stoppers on Facebook and submitting a tip there. https://www.facebook.com/MetroCrimeStoppersMaryland/;
- by calling the MCS 24-hour toll free hotline, 1-866-7LOCKUP.
Persons furnishing information about a crime or the location of a wanted felon may receive a cash reward of up to $2,000.
Individuals providing tips are not required to give their names, but are assigned confidential code numbers. With that number, they identify themselves in future calls to MCS to obtain status reports about the case, and when eligible, arrange to receive the cash reward. When MCS receives a tip, MCS sends it to the local law enforcement agency where the crime took place, and that agency investigates and reports the results to MCS. Rewards are paid if the information provided leads to the arrest and charges filed on a known felon, as long as the tip was received through MCS. All rewards are paid in cash.
Metro Crime Stoppers is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, and is run entirely by volunteers. The reward of up to $2,000 for felony crimes comes from fundraisers and generous donations in the community. No donation is too small, and every donation helps MCS reach the goal of increasing rewards and helping police in our communities catch criminals. MCS will send you a letter of confirmation of your donation for tax purposes. http://metrocrimestoppers.org/donate-to-metro-crime-stoppers/ [metrocrimestoppers.org]
The Frederick Police Department will continue to encourage and monitor tips to our existing tip system. Anyone with information who wishes to remain anonymous can contact the Frederick Police Department by voicemail at 301-600-TIPS (8477), text message at 240-674-TIPS (8477), or by email fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
Only tips received through MCS are eligible for MCS rewards.
