Frederick Police Department Patrol Officers To Transition to Twelve-Hour Shifts
FREDERICK, MD – As a result of the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the City of Frederick and Fraternal Order of Police Francis Scott Key Lodge #91, members of the Frederick Police Department's two Patrol Divisions will transition to twelve-hour shifts beginning Sunday, January 5, 2020.
The new schedule maintains three shifts with Dayshift officers working 6 a.m. to 6 p.m., Evening shift officers working from 3 p.m. to 3 a.m., and Midnight officers working 8 p.m. to 8 a.m. Currently, the officers assigned to the both of the Patrol Divisions work ten and a half hour shift, which only allows for limited overlap hours each day; however, the twelve-hour shifts will allow for additional coverage during peak times throughout the day.
“The department is looking forward to having the additional resources during the peak hours as this will allow us to increase both our visibility and enforcement efforts in our neighborhoods throughout the city,” Chief Ed Hargis said. “The department will be using various deployment strategies to address both criminal activity as well as quality of life issues during the overlap shifts”.
