Update: 100 Block of North Market Street Shooting
Original Incident (February 24, 2019)
FREDERICK, MD - On March 4, 2019, Detective Matt Irons applied for criminal charges against Gregory Lyte, 33, of Martinsburg, WV. Through his investigation, Det. Irons determined that a verbal dispute arose between two groups as they were inside an establishment in the 100 block of North Market Street. The groups left the establishment, and then a fight occurred between them on the sidewalk nearby. During the fight, one person fired a gun, with a round striking the victim. Det. Irons identified Gregory Lyte as the person who had fired the gun.
Mr. Gregory Lyte has open warrants for the following:
- Assault – 2nd Degree;
- Assault – 1st Degree w/gun.
The Frederick Police Department has been in contact with other law enforcement agencies to get assistance locating Gregory Lyte in order to serve the arrest warrant.

Frederick Police Investigate Shooting
FREDERICK, MD – At about 0126 hours on February 24, 2019, officers of the Frederick Police Department (FPD) arrived in the 100 block of North Market Street for the report of a shooting. Officers located an adult male with a gunshot wound to his abdomen. EMS personnel transported him to an area hospital for treatment.
Officers closed the 100 block of North Market Street to vehicle and pedestrian traffic. A member of the Crime Scene Unit arrived to collect potential evidence. Detectives interviewed several potential witnesses and canvassed the area for other potential witnesses or evidence.
The victim is in stable condition at this time. The investigation is ongoing, and FPD may release more details as they become available.
