Frederick Police Raise Over $18,000 for Special Olympics Maryland

FREDERICK, MD – Throughout 2018, members of the Frederick Police Department held four events and raised $18,002.53 for Special Olympics Maryland.  The money raised goes to support 7,782 Special Olympics Maryland athletes. The events organized by departmental members and volunteers include 5k on the Runway, the Torch Run, Frederick Freeze, and Cops on Rooftops.

Frederick Police Chief Ed Hargis said “In 1981, the Wichita Kansas police department started the first Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics as a way to get officers involved in their community. Today, FPD proudly continues to build upon this tradition through our community outreach efforts and partnership with Special Olympics - Maryland in providing support to those with intellectual disabilities.”

The Department would also like the community to join them on Saturday, February 2, 2019, at 11 am for the 2nd Annual Frederick Freeze.   We invite you to join and watch hundreds of participants as they jump into frigid waters to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland Athletes.  The event will take place at the Amphitheatre on Carroll Creek.    For more information on the 2019 Frederick Freeze event please contact Officer Sara Evans at 240-344-6948 / sevans@frederickmdpolice.org.
