Frederick Police Charge Commercial Robbery Suspect

FREDERICK, MD – At about 1745 hours on June 16, 2018, a commercial robbery occurred at the Walgreens at 1595 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, Maryland.  Officers of the Frederick Police Department arrived at 1749 hours.  The suspect had left the area.  Witnesses described a white or possibly Middle Eastern male, wearing camouflage fatigues and carrying a bag, who had approached the pharmacy counter and demanded narcotics.  Witnesses said the suspect mentioned that he had a gun.  Pharmacy staff gave the male several narcotic items, and he exited the store and left the area in a red truck.  Detective Greg Loftis arrived at the scene and assumed the investigation.

On June 17, Det. Loftis received information that the Greenbelt Police Department investigated a robbery of a CVS in Greenbelt, Maryland.  During this robbery, a "bait" GPS tracking device was inside one of the pill bottles stolen by the suspect.  Police were able to track the GPS and conduct a traffic stop on a truck driven by Robert Ottinger Bottenfield, 30, of Gaithersburg, Maryland. Greenbelt Police arrested and charged Bottenfield for the robbery in Greenbelt.

On June 18, Det. Loftis interviewed Bottenfield at the Prince George’s County jail.  Bottenfield confessed to the June 16 robbery of the Walgreens in Frederick. Det. Loftis applied for the following charges on Bottenfield:

  • Armed Robbery
  • Robbery
  • Theft: $100 to Under $1,500.

The Frederick Police Department is asking anyone with additional information about this incident to contact Detective Greg Loftis at 240-674-8941.  Those who wish to remain anonymous can contact the department by voicemail at 301-600-TIPS (8477), text message at 240-674-TIPS (8477), or by email fpdcrimetip@frederickmdpolice.org.
