Possible Overdose Death Investigation
FREDERICK, MD – At 0256 hours on June 4, 2018, several officers of the Frederick Police Department (FPD) arrived in the area of the 1200 block of Danielle Drive after receiving a report of a male causing a disturbance. The officers observed the adult male displaying erratic behavior, which caused them to believe that he was under the influence of an unknown substance. Officers requested EMS personnel to respond.
As the officers attempted to make contact with the individual, he fled on foot. The officers were able to detain him near Orchard Way and take him into custody for a medical evaluation. As the man was being prepared for transport to Frederick Memorial Hospital, he became unresponsive. Lifesaving procedures were provided during transport as well as at the hospital. However, the individual died at the hospital later in the morning.
Due to police officer involvement prior to the transport to the hospital, the Frederick Police Department requested the Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) to conduct an independent investigation into the incident.
The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner performed an autopsy, and the doctor will make a determination on the cause and manner of death once complete exam results are available. The investigation by MCPD is ongoing. Additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
