On Saturday, 01/20/2018 at approximately 0232 hours, Officers from the Frederick Police Department were dispatched to the 300 block of Catoctin Avenue regarding a white male opening various car doors and entering vehicles in the area.
Upon arrival, officers located a suspect matching the description provided by the witness. A brief foot chase ensued and the suspect was apprehended a short distance from the scene. The suspect resisted arrest prior to being taken into custody. The suspect was fully identified as, Ian Michael Shelley DOB: 03/15/1999.
Officer Charles Lawson contacted several vehicle owners who confirmed their car doors were opened and vehicles entered. A search of the suspect yielded missing items from one of the vehicles on his person.
The suspect was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner and charged with the below listed offenses. The suspect also had an outstanding warrant through the Frederick Police Department.
The Frederick Police Department is increasing patrols in the area and would like to thank the public for its assistance with this incident. The Frederick Police Department would also like to remind citizens to keep their vehicles locked at all times.
