The City of Frederick Featured in US Builders Review Spring Edition
Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick is featured in the spring edition of US Builders Review. The article highlights the City’s historical character and charm; the unique blending of history and technology; and several current, high profile construction projects. The article can be located online.
Featured prominently in the article is the next phase of construction of the award-winning Carroll Creek Park, which is slated to go out to bid in June 2012. Also featured includes the proposed Downtown Hotel and Conference Center. This project, championed by the Frederick County Chamber of Commerce’s Major Employers Group and supported by the City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, Frederick County Business Development & Retention Division, Tourism Council of Frederick County, and the Downtown Frederick Partnership, calls for development of a 200 room, full-service hotel with 14,000 SF of meeting space to be located in Downtown Frederick.
Other projects mentioned in the article are renovations and construction happening at Fort Detrick’s National Interagency Biodefense Campus worth approximately $2 billion. The Campus includes several new facilities including both DoD and DHS laboratories such as the National Institute for Allergies and Infectious Disease (NIAID), National Biodefense Analysis and Countermeasures Center (NBACC) and the US Army Medical Research Institute of Infectious Disease (USAMRIID).
Close to Fort Detrick, the nearly complete Frederick National Laboratory’s (formerly NCI-Frederick) Advanced Technology Research Facility was also highlighted. This 330,000 square foot facility anchors Riverside Research Park and promotes opportunities for public-private partnerships in cancer research.
“Frederick has gained national recognition for its unique historic charm and strength as a business leader in the Baltimore-Washington metro area,” stated Richard Griffin, Director of Economic Development. “We are pleased to be recognized by US Builders Review.”
Frederick’s history may have started during colonial times, but the City has embraced high-tech R&D to secure its place in today’s fast paced world while looking to the future.
