The Frederick Police Department received a call for a robbery that was occurring in the 1600 block of Opossumtown Pike. Members of the Street Crimes Unit were nearby and responded quickly to the scene.
On 01-03-2018, at
approximately 5:28 pm, The Frederick Police Department received a call for a
robbery that was occurring in the 1600 block of Opossumtown Pike. Members of
the Street Crimes Unit were nearby and responded quickly to the scene. Upon
arrival, officers learned that the victim had been shopping at a nearby store.
When the victim exited the store and walked to her vehicle, she was approached
from behind by the suspect. The suspect, who was identified as Sherry Lee
Tinsley, yelled to the victim “give me your purse” and then attempted to pull
the victim’s purse off of her shoulder. A struggle ensued and Tinsley was able
to knock the victim to the ground and flee with the purse.
As this was
occurring, a retired Frederick City Police Officer was walking his dogs nearby
and observed the robbery. The retired officer was able to apprehend Tinsley and
detain her until on duty officers arrived and placed her under arrest. All of
the victim’s property was recovered and returned to her.
Tinsley was taken
to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center and charged with Robbery, Theft
and 2nd Degree Assault.
