Frederick's Most Wanted Reaches 500th Arrest

FREDERICK, MD - The Frederick Police Department in partnership with the Frederick News Post marked its 500th Frederick’s Most Wanted (FMW) arrest on July 12th, with the arrest of Ana Castillo. Ms. Castillo, featured as one of Frederick’s Most Wanted on February 26, 2017, was observed as a passenger in a vehicle by Officer Marlon Alvarez and subsequently arrested.  She is currently being held on no bond on multiple charges of driving while suspended.

The Frederick’s Most Wanted program features approximately four person wanted by the Frederick Police Department or allied agencies every other Sunday in the Frederick News Post.  The Frederick’s Most Wanted program began in April of 2009 and has featured 669 wanted persons to date.

“The Frederick Police Department proactively engages our community in many ways to help keep our city safe. The Frederick’s Most Wanted Program is a prime example of how police and citizens can work together to make a difference in our city. We realize that through this partnership, the community is our leading resource when it comes to locating and apprehending these wanted individuals, and because of this collaboration we have reached a monumental goal of our 500th Apprehension”, stated Chief Hargis.  “I applaud all of the citizens, law enforcement officers and our Community Outreach Coordinator, Michele Bowman for making this program a true success.”

The Frederick’s Most Wanted program is a collaboration between several agencies that attend twice monthly Heightened Enforcement Accountability & Treatment Team (HEAT) meetings.   These meetings are held at the Frederick Police Department with local law enforcement and community partners such as: Brunswick Police Department, Community Action Agency, Department of Juvenile Services, Frederick County Sheriff’s Office, Frederick County State’s Attorney’s Office, Frederick County Workforce Services, Housing Authority for the City of Frederick, Maryland State Police, Parole and Probation, and the Thurmont Police Department.

The HEAT meetings are one component of the Safe Streets Initiative. The goal of the Safe Streets Initiative is to reduce crime by identifying and monitoring offenders in the area. The Governor's Office of Crime Control and Prevention funds the Safe Streets Initiative.
