Clarification of previous press release on bicycle usage in the downtown area.
This follow up press release is to address the previously issued one regarding Non Motorized Wheeled Vehicles. The previous press release gave the impression that it was unlawful to ride a bicycle in the Historic District of downtown Frederick. This is not the case; it is permissible to ride a bicycle in the Historic District and on Carroll Creek Linear Park. All bicycle usage, however, must be in compliance with the city’s existing ordinances. Bicycles may be ridden on the streets of downtown within the Historic District, but are not allowed to be ridden on the sidewalks. Likewise as it concerns Carroll Creek Linear Park, all bicycle usage is permitted as long as the bicycle is operated in a normal manner. That is to say no “trick riding, stunt riding, or reckless operation” will be permitted. We regret any misunderstandings generated by the previous press release and hope this will clarify the matter.
