FPD Detectives investigating a Homicide W.
South St.
FREDERICK, MD – On 02/22/2017 at approximately 2207 hours
members of the Frederick Police Department responded to a report of a shooting
in the 400 BLK of West South Street.
Upon arrival to the area, Officers located the scene of the
incident. The incident appears to have
begun inside an apartment and continued outside. As the altercation escalated, the suspect
identified as Richard Jerome Harriday, displayed a handgun and shot the victim
once in the upper body.
Harriday then fled the scene and retreated to a garage
located off Hoffman’s Alley. Harriday
locked himself inside the garage for approximately 2 hours. During that time, Harriday spoke with FPD
Negotiators. Harriday peacefully
surrendered to FPD SRT. He was taken
into custody and transported to FPD CID for questioning. From there Harriday was transported to the
FCADC for processing and is awaiting appearance before the District Court
Commissioner at this time.
At this time FPD is not pursuing any other suspects and
do not believe this is a random act of violence. FPD did recover a handgun during the course
of the investigation.
