The Frederick Police Department’s Patrol Division has charged a male after committing Vehicle Theft, Driving While Impaired by Alcohol and Driving on a Suspended License …
On 04-25-2016, officers of the Frederick Police Department responded to South Street Auto Sales located in the 1800 block of Rosemont Avenue, in Frederick City, in reference to a vehicle theft.
Through the initial investigation it was determined that the suspect, later identified as Chad Gaffney arrived at the auto lot and advised the dealership employee that he was interested in looking at a Ford pickup. The dealership employee opened the vehicle up and after he turned away briefly, Gaffney started the vehicle and fled onto Rosemont Avenue. Dealership employee’s then followed Gaffney and alerted police to the vehicle’s location. Officers eventually caught up with the stolen vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on it in the area of the U.S. Route 340 and the Route 17 split.
Officers placed Gaffney under arrest and subsequently determined that he was also driving while under the influence of alcohol. It was also later learned that Gaffney was driving the motor vehicle on a suspended license.
Officer First Class David DeWees, of the Frederick Police Department’s Patrol Squad A, was assigned as the lead investigator in this case.
