City Snow Removal Operations to Cease for the Weekend

MEDIA RELEASE

UPDATE – January 29th @ 4:45 PM – Post Snow Status Update in The City of Frederick
City Snow Removal Operations to Cease for the Weekend

January 29, 2016 @ 4:45 PM: We will cease 24 hour a day snowplow operations in The City of Frederick today, Friday, January 29. City snow crews have worked 24 hours a day in 12-hour shifts for the past 7 days to plow and move the more than 35 inches of snow that fell on the City last weekend. At this time, additional plowing is not advisable in most areas as it will bury previously cleared sidewalks, parking spaces and fire hydrants. The City will have a limited crew on standby over the weekend to salt areas that may refreeze overnight and will assign limited crews early next week to address areas with unresolved safety concerns.

Daytime temperatures are projected to be above freezing over the weekend followed by a warm front crossing into the area Tuesday into Wednesday of next week.
Residents are asked to keep downspouts and storm drains ice and snow free to prevent flooding. Organizations that have flat-roofed buildings should assess and ensure their roof drains are open and remain open to avoid roof collapses.
Drivers and pedestrians should continue exercising extreme caution and use main roads and sidewalks whenever possible and refrain from walking in streets.

Due to the recent snow event All Trash/Yard Waste Collection Services have been suspended until Monday, February 1, 2016. The regular collection schedule will resume on Monday, February 1, 2016. (For Monday, February 1st collection, please set out trash on Sunday, January 31st after 5:00pm and before 12:00 Midnight)

Please refer to City Media sites for any and all updates and schedules.

For Residential Recycle-Please refer to the Frederick County schedule**

If you have questions regarding trash and yard waste collection, please contact the City switchboard at 301-600-1440.

As you walk by buildings and under overpasses please be aware of falling and breaking icicles overhead, and exercise caution.

The City of Frederick thanks you for your patience as we recover from this unique and challenging snow event.
