MEDIA RELEASE
UPDATE – January 27th @ 2:30 PM - Status of Post Snow Event in City of Frederick
City Snow Emergency Plan Remains in Effect, City Government Open Thursday, January 28th with Liberal Leave in Effect and Parking Decks Open for Free Parking from 6:00 PM Thursday, January 28th until 6:00 AM on Friday, January 29th
Frederick, MD – January 27, 2016 @ 2:30 PM: The City of Frederick appreciates your patience as we deal with the aftermath of this unique and challenging snow event.
Due to weather related conditions, the City Snow Emergency Plan will remain in effect until further notice.
All five City parking garages will be open for free parking from 6:00 PM, Thursday, January 28th until 6:00 AM on Friday, January 29th. Restricted parking in all areas of downtown will be enforced.
City Government Offices will be open on Thursday, January 28th with liberal leave in effect. Non-Essential employees will operate under the Liberal Leave Policy. Essential employees for this event must report unless otherwise notified by their supervisor.
Reduced staffing levels of some City offices may occur as a result of the weather conditions. Citizens are encouraged to confirm their appointments or call ahead to ensure that staff is available to assist them before traveling to a City office.
Our main concern is the safety of our citizens and City employees. We are asking residents to continue to stay off the roads as much as possible. We are also asking that citizens not attempt to walk on the streets. Although many sidewalks are not clear, walking on the roadways is extremely dangerous. The City plow trucks are very large and have a hard time seeing people in the street. Do not let children play in large snow piles on corners or in parking lanes or parking lots.
We have added a link to report plowing issues on the City's website. The link can be found at http://md-frederick.civicplus.com/FormCenter/General-Problem-11/Report-Snow-Plowing-Issues-76
Due to the recent snow event All Trash/Yard Waste Collection Services have been suspended until Monday, February 1, 2016.

If your street hasn't been plowed yet, DPW Snow Crews ask you NOT to dig your car out yet.
Please use extreme caution on exit ramps especially on left and right turn lanes that are blocked with high banks of snow.
As you walk by buildings and under overpasses please be aware of falling and breaking ice cycles overhead, and exercise caution.
In a team effort to expedite the snow clearing process, Mayor McClement asks residents to please clear snow from around fire hydrants, street corners that are handicap accessible and storm drains to prevent flooding and ice formation on City streets.
The DPW Snow Team crews are working diligently and will continue to push snow overnight clearing all areas as quickly as possible. The City of Frederick thank you for your patience as we work together through this historic snow fall.
