HOLIDAY SPIRIT AND COMMUNITY SHINE BRIGHT AT THE 2015 CELEBRATE FREDERICK’S FESTIVAL OF LIGHTS

Celebrate the true meaning of the holidays during the Celebrate Frederick’s Festival of Lights this Friday, December 18. The ceremony begins at 7 pm in the Courtyard at City Hall, 101 N. Court Street. Complimentary hot chocolate will be served. Sign language interpretation will be provided.

The Festival of Lights will showcase the musical talents of the Frederick Children’s Chorus Touring Ensemble under the direction of Artistic Director and founder, Judy DuBose. The chorus will perform two songs, Here We Come A’ Caroling and S’Vivon, and will lead the audience in a sing-along of classic carols.

This year’s program will feature inspirational speaker Dr. Thomas Powell, new President of St. John’s Catholic Prep and Past President of Mount St. Mary’s College (2003-2014)

The evening will come to an end with a moving candle lighting ceremony, presided over by Mayor Randy McClement. Mayor McClement will light the first candle as the lights outside City Hall are dimmed, and candles will be passed from neighbor to neighbor, until the courtyard is filled with light.

Special thanks are due to emcee Jim Racheff, Brownie Troop #81741 and students from the Visitation Academy for distributing programs and candles, and Randy Bartlett of Highland Catering for providing hot chocolate to the audience.

Following the program, John Widmann, City Carillonneur, will perform a concert of holiday music on the 49-bell carillon in Baker Park.

In the event of inclement weather please note the Festival of Lights will be relocated to All Saints’ Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street. The ceremony will begin at 7 pm in the sanctuary. Guests are invited to enter the building from the Church Street entrance. The alternate venue is possible due to the warm generosity of All Saints’ Episcopal Church.

If you are unable to attend the event you can still partake in the program by tuning into City of Frederick Channel 99 or online at www.cityoffrederick.com at 7 pm for a live viewing. For a link that will take you straight to the live event online, please visit: http://cityoffrederick.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.php?publish_id=2

Video will also be available on demand via The City of Frederick website beginning Monday, December 21st and will re-air on Ch. 99 at various times during the week of December 21st.

The Festival of Lights and Holidays in Historic Frederick event series would not be possible without the hard work of the volunteers of the Holidays in Historic Frederick Committee, and the following community-minded businesses: Spires Sponsors – Bechtel Infrastructure, Nymeo; Carillon Sponsors - Sandy Spring Bank, Weis Markets; Bandshell Sponsors - The Frederick News Post, Frederick Magazine, Offit Kurman, The Plamondon Companies, Roy Rogers and WHAG.
