Frederick Police Department Makes Arrest For 1st Degree Assault (CID)

On 11/14/2015 at approximately 1615 hours officers from the Frederick Police Department responded to 90 Waverly, Elmwood Terrace Apartments for an assault that just occurred. The victim and other family members were interviewed who were present at the scene of the incident. Detective McKinney was later tasked as the lead investigator regarding the incident.

Victim stated he was at the apartment visiting family and was walking out of the kitchen when the suspect, later identified as Maurice Mercer, DOB: 4-11-1987, suddenly came into the apartment and attacked the victim. Mercer punched the victim in the face and the victim dropped to the floor from the resulting strike and was knocked unconscious. The suspect then fled the residence prior to police arrival.

Victim was transported to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center due to his injuries he sustained to his face from the attack. The suspect is known to the victim and incident is a result of a dispute between the two parties.

Detective McKinney later applied for and received a Warrant regarding the assault. Suspect later turned himself in to police custody on 12/01/2015 at approximately 2100 hours. The warrant was served at the Frederick County Adult Detention Center by Detective McKinney, charges to include 1st Degree Assault and 2nd Degree Assault.
