Previous Release:
On 11/12/2015 at approximately 5:44 PM Frederick Police Officers responded to a reported shooting in the 1100 Block of Orchard Terrace Frederick Maryland. As officers arrived on scene they located a 17 year old male victim suffering from a gunshot wounds.
Detectives responded to the scene to investigate the shooting. Det. Putman was assigned as the lead investigator in this case. The follow-up investigation revealed that two groups of subjects previously known to one another became involved in an altercation in the area of Orchard Terrace and Hill Street. During the altercation two members of the suspect group fired handguns at the victim’s group resulting in the gunshot wound to the victim. A third suspect from the victim’s group was in possession of a handgun and returned gunfire.
The victim sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound to his body. The victim was flown by the Maryland State Police Aviation Division to University of Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD for treatment of his injuries.
Information was obtained which led to the identification of several persons involved in the altercation. Det. Putman was able to determine the following suspects were involved in the shooting; Michael Allen Diggs, Mekhi Caire Davis and Alonetae Jamera Cottingham. Officers located all three suspects following the shooting and were able to take all three suspects into custody. A fourth juvenile suspect was arrested and charged as a juvenile in this case for possessing a firearm.
Davis, Diggs, and Cottingham were transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center Friday morning for an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner. Two of these suspects were juveniles that were charged as adults due to the severity of the crime.
