The Frederick Police Department is pleased to announce an arrest in the murder investigation of Gloria Watson.
On June 3, 2015, officers were called to the 400 block of Heather Ridge Drive for a report of an unconscious woman inside her apartment. When officers arrived, they found a woman who was the apparent victim of a severe knife attack and determined her to be dead. The victim, identified as Gloria Watson (DOB; 09/12/62: 52 year old female), was transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner in Baltimore for an autopsy. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined Ms. Watson to have suffered stab wounds to her neck and torso area causing her death. The death was ruled a homicide.
Detectives from the Frederick Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division were called upon to conduct the investigation. Detective Jorge Garcia and Detective Doug Ames were assigned as lead and Co-Lead Detectives. During the course of the investigation, it was determined, through forensic evidence, that the victim was sexually assaulted. The biological evidence was then submitted to the Maryland State Police lab for comparison to any suspects developed during the investigation.
During the course of the investigation, Detective Garcia was able to develop information that lead him to a suspect in this case who was a known acquaintance of the victim. Detective Garcia interviewed the man and obtained a DNA sample from him to be used to compare to our known-suspect standard. The lab determined the acquaintance was the contributor of the biological evidence collected at the scene and during the autopsy. An arrest warrant was applied for and obtained charging the suspect with 1st Degree Murder and other related charges.
The suspect is identified as:
Milton Orellana
DOB: 08/13/1992
Frederick, MD
Although Mr. Orellana is charged in this case, the investigation is still open and ongoing. We are asking anyone with information to please contact the lead detective, Detective Jorge Garcia, at 301-600-1247.
