Copper Sulfate Application Will Take Place in Lake Linganore

Frederick, MD – September 1, 2015: The City of Frederick Department of Public Works will apply 180 gallons of copper sulfate to Lake Linganore to treat taste and control odor causing algae.
The copper sulfate crystals will be diluted with water and the concentration of dissolved copper will be sprayed along the shorelines. The application will take place on Tuesday, September 8th at Lake Linganore from 8:00 and 11:00 am.
The Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) has been contacted and made aware of the application schedule. The Lake Linganore Association has also been notified by The City of Frederick.
The City of Frederick DPW will have a boat on the water source and will be applying the copper sulfate solution with a spray bar/wand. There should not be any impact to the public or livestock in the small dosage that will be applied.
