State Highway Administration Resurfaces West Patrick Street in Frederick County
Motorists Should Expect Daytime and Nighttime Single Lane Closures

Frederick, MD – August 11, 2015: The City of Frederick has received notice that on Wednesday, August 12, 2015, the Maryland Department of Transportation’s State Highway Administration (SHA) will begin a resurfacing project to improve US 40 (West Patrick Street) between US 15 (Frederick Freeway) and Waverly Drive. Weather permitting; the $1.3 million project will be completed by late fall.

In addition to patching, grinding (removing the top layer of asphalt), paving and re-striping, SHA will upgrade road signs and guardrail where applicable. SHA last resurfaced this 1.5 mile section of West Patrick Street in 1997.

Drivers will likely encounter single lane closures between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. SHA’s contractor, Kline LLC., of Frederick will use flaggers, arrow boards and signs to guide motorists through the work zone. Nearly 50,000 vehicles use this section of US 40 each day so motorists should expect delays and allow for extra driving time or alter their routes during these times.

Drivers can help keep this work zone safe by slowing down and staying alert when they encounter work zones. Always expect the unexpected, pay extra attention and drive slowly through any work zone. Whether it’s a tree trimming operation or a bridge project, be aware when orange is there: Think Orange (the color of construction equipment and signs), safer driving, safer work zones for everyone.

Road crews are well into mid-summer construction. Click here for a listing of major SHA construction projects throughout Maryland. For the latest real-time travel information, log onto www.md511.org.
