Mayor to Host Wiffle Ball Game as Part of MLB’s “Play Ball” Initiative
Game to be held in Baker Park on August 6

Frederick, MD – August 3, 2015: Mayor McClement will host City of Frederick youth in a wiffle ball game as part of the United States Conference of Mayors (USCM) support of Major League Baseball’s “Play Ball” initiative, which focuses on the fun nature of baseball and encourages widespread participation in related activities.

During the month of August 2015, or “Play Ball Month,” mayors are implementing the initiative throughout cities with the goal of strengthening the connection between communities and the National Past time.

The Frederick Event will be held on Thursday, August 6, 2015 at Baker Park during the Summerfest Family Theatre Social.

Mayors across the country are hosting similar activities to engage citizens, families, and city departments to organize individual and community events. These activities will be focused on strengthening bonds between families and communities with baseball through baseball related activities.

“Sports in general, but baseball in particular helps kids build confidence, teach the value of hard-work and helps kids stay healthy both physically and mentally. I am excited to participate in Major League Baseball’s ‘Play Ball Initiative’ and to strengthen the relationship between our community the National Pastime of Baseball, especially because of our close ties with the Frederick Key’s right here in the City,” said Mayor Randy McClement.

For questions regarding the “Play Ball” Initiative, please contact Lauren O’Malley at 301-600-1184 and for more information regarding Summerfest Family Theatre, contact Jen Martin in the Office of Special Events at 301-600-2284.
