City Seeking Interested Individuals to Serve on the Historic Preservation Commission
Frederick, MD – July 14, 2015: Historic preservation is a vital part of maintaining our vibrant City. The City of Frederick is seeking individuals interested in serving on the Historic Preservation Commission (HPC).
The HPC is charged with prescribing appropriate rules and regulations for the transaction of its business; applying preservation guidelines and applicable Frederick City Code provisions that are consistent with those generally recognized by the Maryland Historical Trust during the consideration of: construction, alteration, reconstruction, moving or demolition of designated landmarks, sites, structures, and districts; and using existing criteria to make recommendations of sites, structures, and districts within the City of Frederick regarding their designation.
Interested individuals will be evaluated based upon the following criteria:
1) All members of the commission must possess a demonstrated special interest in historic preservation. This requirement may be satisfied by formal training in historic preservation, professional or volunteer experience with a preservation-related organization, or active membership in a preservation-related organization.
2) Preferential consideration may be given to applicants that possess professional or academic training or specific knowledge in one or more preservation related fields such as history, architecture, architectural history, planning, archeology, anthropology, curation, conservation, landscape architecture, historic preservation, urban design or related disciplines. These requirements may be satisfied by, at a minimum, two (2) years of experience as a professional or a Bachelor’s degree in one or more of the above listed fields or by formal post-secondary education, employment or practical experience.
3) Applicants who live outside the City of Frederick must possess the professional or academic training, or must possess the specific knowledge listed in criteria (2).
