On May 17, 2015, at approximately 1258 AM, Officer Matthew Fast was on routine patrol when he observed a maroon Buick Lesabre in the area of E. Fourth St @ N. Market St. The vehicle made a sharp left turn onto West Fourth St, and continued straight on Dill Ave across Bentz St from the left turn only lane. Officer Fast activated his emergency equipment and conducted a traffic stop on the Buick.

When Officer Fast contacted the driver he detected the odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle. Officer Fast had the occupants step out of the vehicle and continued to smell marijuana coming from the driver, as Reginald Lee Lovitt from Washington, DC. Officer Fast conducted a search of Lovitt and located a small amount of marijuana. The vehicle was also registered to Lovitt, a search of the vehicle revealed a loaded 9MM handgun within the front center console along with a quantity of “Molly”, known as MDMA/ecstasy.
The vehicle was occupied by three additional passengers, they were identified and interviewed. The passengers were released from the scene without criminal charges. Through an investigation it was determined the handgun recovered and drugs found within the vehicle belonged to Reginald Lee Lovitt.

A stolen check was conducted on the handgun and was found to be stolen out of Fairfax Co., VA.. The reporting agency was notified and the gun was confirmed as stolen. A criminal history check revealed Lovitt is a convicted felon.
