[ARCHIVED] Frederick Police Department’s Annual Award Ceremony

The Frederick City Police Department held its annual award ceremony at the Delaplaine Arts Center in Frederick Maryland on March 20th at 2pm

The ceremony acknowledges officers and community members for a number of different types of awards that include Volunteer of the year, Officer of the year, Life Saving Award, Mutual Aid Award, and Employee of the year. Promotions to the rank of Corporal, Sergeant and Lieutenant were also presented. In addition, the retirements of three sworn officers and a non-sworn employee was also recognized.

The following individuals were recognized;

Volunteer of the year: Ms. Cindy Powell
Ms. Powell has been volunteering her time for over ten years with the Police Activities League and the Frederick City Police Victim Services Unit. She has spent countless hours of her time helping children, and victims of crime.

Officer Of the year: Ofc. Gregory Loftis
Officer Loftis investigated a graffiti complaint with over fifty cases of the same graffiti and suspect. After identifying a suspect, he typed up a search warrant, completed fourteen pages of charging documents and over thirty-two counts of malicious destruction of property. As a result he was able to close over fifty cases that were tied to the same suspect

Life saving Award: Kacie Schmitt, Kelly Gromwell, and Kathryn Souza
On December 23rd, 2014, while at work at a local animal hospital, Kacie, Kelly and Kathryn provided immediate emergency medical care to an individual who was unconscious and unresponsive. The subject was suffering from a medical emergency. Due to their efforts, the subject became alert and started to respond upon the arrival of EMS.


Mutual Aid Award: Todd Crum, Sarah Drennan and Santita Prather-
In July of 2014 the Frederick City Police Department partnered with the Frederick County Health Department to form a strategic plan to fight the heroin problem in our jurisdiction. The three employees receiving this award have been instrumental during this process. This has been a joint collaboration working on a number of incentives to tackle this problem. In addition we have partnered with Frederick Memorial Hospital to assist us in this venture.

Employee of the year:
Mrs. Jen Chin, office manager, office of the chief of police. Jen has been employed with the Frederick City Police since March of 2008. As office manager Jen has proven herself to be a valuable source of institutional knowledge for the chief and command staff. Jen endured a number of changes during 2014 and handled them professionally.

Promotions:
Officer Kevin Meyer seven year veteran joined the agency in 2007, promoted to Corporal.
Officer Reed Preece seven year veteran joined the agency in 2007 promoted to Corporal
Corporal Mike Pue 20 year veteran joined the agency in 1994 promoted to Sergeant
Corporal Jonathan Holler, eight year veteran joined the agency in 2006, promoted to Sergeant
Corporal Aaron Lapp, an eight year veteran joined the agency in 2006, promoted to Sergeant.
Sergeant Joe Hayer, 14 year veteran joined the agency in 2001, promoted to Lieutenant.

Retirees:
Wendy Martyak: retired Crime Scene unit supervisor for twenty-five years after joining the agency in 1989 in a non-sworn position.

Ofc. Michelle Cassady: retired as Officer First Class after joining the department in 1995

Detective Mike Morgan: Retired as detective after joining the department in 1995.

Lieutenant Matt Evans: Retired as lieutenant after joining the department in 1995.

The Frederick City Police Department would like to congratulate all recipients recognized in this year’s ceremony. We recognize the hard word and sacrifice that is needed to accomplishments these great achievements. Additionally, the police department would like to thank the community we serve, with the support and continued partnership it has provided us.
