Officers from the Frederick Police Department stopped and contacted 92 drivers on Saturday, March 14th during a Sobriety Checkpoint operation in the 900 block of N. East St. As part of an effort to promote safe driving, officers stopped all vehicles traveling northbound on North East Street in this area between the hours of 10:30 pm and 1:30 am, checking for signs of alcohol impaired driving and other traffic safety violations, and handing out driver safety tips and information regarding impaired driving, speeding and seatbelts.
Checkpoints conducted by the Frederick Police Department are part of the Checkpoint Strikeforce campaign and are funded by a grant from the Maryland Highway Safety Office.
Traffic crashes continue to be a leading cause of death for Maryland residents. Police urge drivers to always drive sober, obey the speed limit, wear a seat belt and eliminate distractions. If you see an impaired driver on the road, please call 911.
