Deadline Extended for Historic Preservation Awards Nominations
“This Place Matters Photo” Contest Still Open for Submissions
Frederick, MD – March 12, 2015: The deadline for submitting nominations for the 2015 City of Frederick Historic Preservation Awards has been extended until March 27, 2015. Nominations are being accepted in the categories of rehabilitation, new construction, stewardship and community leadership. All nominations must be for properties at least 50 years old or older, located within the City of Frederick and completed within the last three years. Properties do not have to be within the Frederick Town Historic District or have historic preservation overlay designation to be eligible for these awards. Nominations will be evaluated by the Historic Preservation Awards committee according to the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards for the Treatment of Historic Properties, as applicable.
The City is still seeking submissions for the This Place Matters photo contest. This Place Matters is a photo-sharing campaign in which people take photos of themselves in the places that matter most to them. Then, by sharing the photos, they help spread the word about these places with the rest of the City and the nation. To participate, either download or print a This Place Matters sign from the City’s website or pick one up from the Planning Department, Municipal Office Annex, 140 West Patrick Street. Take a digital photograph of yourself holding the sign in whatever place matters most to you in the City of Frederick. Then email the photograph to spyles@cityoffrederick.com. The Historic Preservation Awards Committee will select a winning photograph to be announced at the historic preservation awards ceremony. Creativity is encouraged! The deadline for submitting photographs is April 3, 2015.
Nomination forms and This Place Matters signs are available at www.cityoffrederick.com/preservation (click on Resources) or in the Planning Department, Municipal Office Annex, 140 West Patrick Street. The awards ceremony will take place at the beginning of the regular Mayor and Board of Aldermen meeting on May 7, 2015 in the boardroom at City Hall, 101 North Court Street, beginning at 7:00 PM.
