The Frederick Police department would like to warn its citizens and community members of a number of fraudulent scams during the holiday season. The Frederick Police Department has received from community member’s information regarding a phone call and request for money. These fraudulent calls request a sum of money be sent through various means in relation to a water bill, gas bill or an alleged situation involving a family member. The caller states that if a sum of money is not paid the water, or gas will be shut off and/or a family member will go to jail.
The police department is urging its citizens not to send money without proper verification and identification. The Frederick Police Department is asking its citizens to be aware of these scams during the holiday season.
The Frederick Police departments Criminal Investigations Division is aware of these incidents and will be conducting a follow-up investigation
