FPD and FCHD Team Up to Create Public Service Announcement on the Dangers of Heroin Use

Frederick, MD --The Frederick City Police Department (FPD) has teamed with the Frederick County Health Department (FCHD) to create a joint public service announcement entitled: Heroin: Act Before it’s too Late. This PSA is intended to educate the community on heroin and opiate addiction. Heroin usage has significantly increased and is presenting new dangers.

The City of Frederick Police recognizes that heroin is a community and health issue and not just a law enforcement issue. To address this concern, the FPD is partnering with health, treatment, and community groups to create a proactive approach to this growing problem. In support of this, the Frederick Police Department’s heroin strategy includes; naloxone training with the Frederick County Health Department, educating the community, identifying resources for referral for those addicted to opiates and conducting investigations to suppress the sale of heroin in The City of Frederick. Naloxone training allows officers to be issued naloxone, which in the right circumstances can reverse an overdose on opiates and potentially save lives.

For more information regarding what you need to know about the dangers of heroin use, what you need to do if someone you know is using or selling heroin and what you can do to help in the community, call the Frederick City Police Department at 301.600.2101 or the Frederick County Health Department at 301.600.1775.

The PSA Heroin: Act Before it’s too Late will be aired on The City of Frederick’s cable channel 99 during the month of November.
