Officer James Martin is identified as the officer involved in the officer involved shooting on August 16, 2014. Officer James Martin is a 18+ year veteran of the Frederick Police Department. Officer Martin is currently assigned to the Special Operations Division, Drug Enforcement Unit, where he has been assigned for the last 12 years.
This investigation is still open and ongoing.

UPDATE #2:
On 08/18/2014 Roy Turner was discharged from R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma after receiving medical care for injuries sustained during this incident. Turner was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center where he is awaiting an initial appearance before a District Court Commissioner.
The investigation into the events of the shooting is still ongoing. Pending the outcome of the investigation additional charges may be warranted.

PREVIOUS UPDATE:
The driver of the vehicle who struck a Frederick Police Officer with his car on August 16, 2014, has been charged with several motor vehicle violations and felony, possession of a controlled dangers substance with the intent to distribute. A warrant has been obtained for Roy Turner, of Frederick Md.
Mr. Turner is still being treated at Baltimore Shock Trauma for injuries sustained during the officer involved shooting. His injuries were non-life threatening and consist of a bullet wound to his upper left arm. Once Mr Turner is released from the hospital, he will be transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for further processing.
The investigation into the events of the shooting is still ongoing. Pending the outcome of that investigation additional charges may be warranted.

Original release
The Frederick Police Department is conducting an investigation into an officer involved shooting which occurred Saturday 08/16/2014 in the 1200 block of West Patrick Street Frederick, Maryland.
On 08/16/2014 at 11:21 PM Frederick Police Officers were in the 1200 block of W Patrick Street when officers observed a suspicious situation. During the investigation the driver of a vehicle struck a Frederick Police Officer. The police officer involved fired his weapon into the vehicle striking the driver.
Officers pursued the driver of the vehicle which fled from the scene. The vehicle was stopped in the area of Baughmans Lane and Shookstown Road Frederick, MD. The driver of the vehicle was taken into custody at that time without incident. Both the suspect and the officer were transported to area hospitals for medical treatment of injuries sustained during this incident.
Due to this being an active investigation, no further details will be released at this time. A follow-up press release will be issued as additional information is made available.
