Frederick, MD -- The City of Frederick Bicycle and Pedestrian Committee is seeking volunteers to help with the 2014 Gran Fondo National Championship Series in Frederick. The Gran Fondo is a cycling challenge that takes group charity riding to the next level. Volunteers are needed to assist in many areas of the event and no previous experience or cycling knowledge is required. Over 325 racers are expected at this event that promises to be a great day filled with lots of fun and excitement. The Gran Fondo National Championship in historic Frederick, Maryland is a cyclist’s opportunity to earn the title of fastest rider in the incredible Gran Fondo arena. The Gran Fondo is a day event that will lead cyclist over many beautiful back roads in Frederick County. Half personal challenge, and half competition, the Gran Fondo National Championship course leads riders through country roads with challenging climbs and incredible scenery. Race courses are offered in different lengths: 32, 62 and 100 miles allowing participants to find a distance to best match their goals. Each rider is equipped with an electronic timing-chip to keep track of their progress throughout the course and to allow riders to compete for best times through highlighted sections of the course. Residents can cheer the riders on as they pass through your area!
