East Frederick Rising and DED to Host Event on Community Development Corporations

Frederick, MD – On Tuesday July 29th, East Frederick Rising, a community based group, jointly with The City of Frederick Department of Economic Development, will host a walking tour followed by a presentation/discussion on how Community Development Corporations (CDC’s) can be used as effective tools for investment and development. Scheduled presenters are Garth Rockcastle, Professor at the University of Maryland School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation, and Stuart Eisenberg, Executive Director of the Hyattsville Community Development Corporation.

The walking tour is scheduled from 10:00 AM-12:00 noon and will depart at 10:00 AM from the Frederick Coffee Company located at 100 N. East Street. Following the walking tour, the presentation/discussion portion of the event will take place at 12:00 noon at That Cuban Place Restaurant located at 506 East Church Street. Individuals interested in the presentation portion only should meet at That Cuban Place Restaurant at 12:00 Noon. Both the walking tour and presentation/discussion are free and open to the public. Registration is not required.

East Frederick Rising is a 501(c)3 group formed in 2008 with support from The City of Frederick to provide programs, offer services, and engage in other activities that promote and support the east side of Frederick. The vision is, “A revitalized east end of the city that is a vibrant, safe and diverse place where residential and commercial opportunities flourish and expand in accordance with smart growth principles.”

CDC’s are non-profit organizations incorporated to provide programs, offer services and engage in other activities that promote and support community development. CDCs usually serve a geographic location such as a neighborhood or a town.
