[ARCHIVED] Traffic Advisory - Severe Thunderstorm Damage and Road Closures

A severe thunderstorm that passed through Frederick at approximately 6:30pm has caused widespread property damage, power outages and road closures.

A severe thunderstorm that passed through Frederick at approximately 6:30pm has caused widespread property damage, power outages and road closures. Frederick Police Department personnel and Department of Public Works crews have been working to clear debris from roadways.

Numerous downed trees created temporary road closures throughout the city. As of 10pm, the following streets remain closed as personnel continue to work on clearing debris:

• Shookstown Rd. between Baughman's Ln. and Montevue Ln. (DPW currently on scene)
• Motter Ave. between W. 9th St. and W. 7th St.

Some intersections in the city may still have traffic signals without power. Motorists that encounter traffic signals that are out or on flash are reminded to treat these intersections as four-way stops. Use caution when approaching inoperable traffic signals and ensure intersections are clear prior to passing through.

The City of Frederick strongly recommends citizens sign up for emergency alerts and other information through “Alert Frederick County”, a citizen alert system for City and County residents managed through Frederick County’s Division of Emergency Management. “Alert Frederick County” is a countywide safe, secure and free emergency alert system.

To sign up to receive emergency alerts, severe weather, and City of Frederick specific police advisories and community messages, go to www.frederickcountymd.gov/alerts and follow the instructions on the County website by clicking on the “Citizen Alert Notification Sign Up” icon. Citizens that opt into the system can select what type of community alerts they wish to receive and designate which devices receive the alerts.

If you have questions when signing up for “Frederick County Alert”, please contact Frederick County Emergency Management at 301-600-1746 or The City of Frederick AV Department at 301-600-3889 and someone will assist you.
