Frederick Municipal Airport to Host Aviation Events
Frederick, MD – The Frederick Municipal Airport is pleased to announce it will be hosting two major aviation events in June, 2014. The Maryland Airport Managers Association (MAMA) in partnership with the Maryland Aviation Administration (MAA) and the Frederick Airport will host the 19th Annual Maryland Regional Aviation Conference at the Hampton Inn, Frederick Hotel from Wednesday, June 4th through Saturday, June 7th. In addition, the 3rd Annual Maryland Regional Festival of Flight will be held at Frederick Municipal Airport (FDK) on Saturday, June 7th.
The Annual Maryland Aviation Conference will focus on topics such as Airport Safety and Current Airport Issues, Wildlife Hazard Management, Lockheed Martin Pilot Portal, Unmanned Aerial Systems, Capital Funding for airports, AOPA hot topics with keynote speaker Mark Baker among other topics of aviation interest. The 3rd Annual Maryland Regional Festival of Flight will be held at the Frederick Municipal Airport on Saturday June 7th. The Federal Aviation Administration Safety Team (FAAST) will provide a day of safety seminars. This will provide an excellent opportunity for pilots to meet other aviation professions. On Saturday, June 7th, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA) and Frederick Municipal Airport will host a “Learn to Fly Day” at Frederick Municipal Airport. The free daylong event is designed to introduce the local community to general aviation. From 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM, volunteer pilots will provide free flights for those new to general aviation aircraft (ages 8 and up on a first come-first serve basis). Desktop simulators, a static aircraft display and aviation activities will be available for everyone to enjoy. To top off the four day event, on Saturday, June 7th, MAMA will host the 3rd Annual Awards Ceremony for the “Explore Maryland by Air Program”, a program that has drawn over 900 pilots.
The Frederick Municipal Airport is the 2nd largest airport in Maryland with 110,000 aircraft operations each year.
