On 05/03/2014, at approximately 8:00 AM, Officers of the Frederick Police Department were called to a disturbance in the 100 block of Baughmans Lane. When officers arrived they learned that a suspect had attempted to carjack a taxi driver.
The officers were told that the suspect was given a fare from the Spring Ridge area to that location by a Yellow Cab of Frederick taxi. When they arrived on Baughmans Lane the suspect assaulted the taxi driver and attempted to steal the taxi. The taxi driver was able to fight off the suspect causing him to flee. The suspect then located another car parked nearby and stole it, fleeing the scene.
Through the investigation officers were able to identify the suspect as Ernest Anthony Cross.
While officers were still on scene at the original call the Frederick County Emergency Communications Center received a call of a suspicious man who abandoned a vehicle in the 12000 block of Weller Rd in Monrovia. Frederick County Sheriff deputies as well as Frederick City police officers responded and verified the abandoned car as the one stolen by Ernest Cross.
The deputies and officers were able to conduct a track of the suspect using a Sheriff Department’s K9. The K9 tracked Cross to a residence in the 12000 block of Fingerboard Rd. Officers and deputies surrounded the residence and Cross was apprehended when he attempted to leave from the rear of the house.
Cross was transported to the Frederick County Adult Detention Center for processing. Officers were able to return the stolen vehicle back to its owner undamaged.
