Officers from the Frederick Police Department are on the scene of an accident involving serious injuries. The accident occurred on S. East St at the Traffic circle
On April 23, 2014, officers from the Frederick Police observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way on N Market St at W 7th St. The vehicle backed up and left the area at a high rate of speed. Officers attempted to stop the vehicle but lost sight of the vehicle in the area of S East Street and E. Patrick St.
The officers continue along the last known path of travel and found the vehicle wrecked near the traffic circle on S. East St. The accident appeared to be serious in nature. One of the occupants was thrown from the vehicle and was suffering serious injuries. Two other occupants were still inside the vehicle. Officers administered immediate first aid on scene and requested the assistance of Frederick County Fire Rescue.
Frederick County Fire Rescue arrived on scene and continued treatment of all three patients. The male was later flown by Maryland State Police Helicopter to Baltimore Shock Trauma. The female driver and additional female occupant had to be extricated from the vehicle. Both females suffered serious injuries and were transported to Meritus Hospital in Hagerstown, Md. No updates are available on the injuries at this time.
Currently, South East Street is closed between E South Street and Monocacy Blvd while Frederick Police Department Accident Investigators are reconstructing the scene. It is anticipated that the road will be closed until at least 6:00 am.
This is an active investigation, as additional information comes available it will be released. The Names of the occupants are not being released at this time pending the outcome of the investigation and notification of family members.
